Very exciting news for Portsmouth City of Sanctuary… Admiral Lord Nelson School has become Portsmouth’s first School of Sanctuary!

After applying in May, ALNS were presented with their official certificate and status by Red Cross’ Malcolm Little in a ceremony earlier this week.

Malcolm commented that: ‘Having the first school of sanctuary in Portsmouth just shows how far we have come since the launch and it is important that youngsters are on board with this movement as they are the ones who will grow up and share their ideas with their families and further afield.’

The school has committed to inclusivity and making sure everyone feels safe, building on their work on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Drama students met with Shamila Dhana from PCoS and the Red Cross to learn more about refugees and asylum seekers also.

An amazing start to the year, I’m sure we can all agree!
