A bicycle can be life-changing, enabling access to many places within the City, boosting both physical and mental health.
Portsmouth City of Sanctuary lead the Welcome Wheels project in partnership with Sustrans, Southsea Cycles, and Top Banana. The bicycles are refurbished by Southsea Cycles, and we also provide a lock, lights, helmet and hi-vis as well as cycling proficiency training to make sure our clients are safe and confident to ride on the road.
This is an ongoing project that allows asylum seekers to thrive by giving them transport to get to volunteering jobs around the City. Additionally, it gives them access to attend group activities and clubs in the City.
