There are many chances to get involved with the projects and organisations Portsmouth City of Sanctuary supports:
- Refugees at Home:
“I had no job, home, English or friends when I came here. Now I have a job, some money, some English and friends, and I owe it all to being hosted by you” So said a Syrian refugee when he left a host’s home. Would you like someone to say the same of you?
Refugees at Home arranges hosting placements for refugees and asylum-seekers across the UK. They need hosts in Portsmouth, and especially in the festive season. Their guests are often referred by the British Red Cross or other charities and come with references and support.
- Two Saints Involve:
StreetLink exists to help end rough sleeping by enabling members of the public to connect people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them.
The weather is turning colder and the build up to Christmas continues to gather pace. Across their services staff are working hard to ensure that their clients, who often find this to be a particularly difficult time of year, are able to join in the festivities.
If you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough, please remember to contact Streetlink who will notify local services who can then support them.
If you would like to support the organisation through different means, see their website.
