Action Asylum volunteers, in partnership with Gosport Borough Council and Rowner Community Trust, planted 80 trees in Rowner.
The volunteers from Portsmouth City of Sanctuary’s Action Asylum project worked with local community volunteers earlier this year, to plant the trees over four sessions.
Gosport Borough Council provided the funding after being awarded The Urban Tree Challenge Fund. They also did the logistical arrangements for transporting the trees to the area, marking sites, gaining permissions and getting the tools.
Rowner Community Trust connected with local people living in the area to help plant the trees. The kids and families also brought hot teas and coffees, making it a fun experience for all, and making the day run smoothly.
This is Action Asylum’s first collaboration in this area, and Gosport Council are looking to get more funding to continue the initiative.
